The Work AI Institute at Glean has released the Work AI Index 2026, a global report on how AI is changing work, with Yong Suk Lee serving as an academic collaborator.
Based on a survey of 6,000 digital workers across the US, UK, and Australia, the report finds that 87% of workers use AI and report saving about 11 hours per week — yet organizations see minimal performance gains. The report introduces two concepts to explain the gap: "botsitting," the untracked human work of making AI usable, and "botshitting," the shipping of unverified AI outputs, which 69% of workers admit to.
The report was led by Rebecca Hinds, Mark Hoffman, and Stephanie Baladi of the Work AI Institute, with academic collaborators including Hancheng Cao (Emory University), Yong Suk Lee (University of Notre Dame), Paul Leonardi (UC Santa Barbara), Aruna Ranganathan (UC Berkeley), Jen Rhymer (University College London), Steven Rogelberg (UNC Charlotte), and Bob Sutton (Stanford University).
